With stone as a base that protects and supports the delicate glass, COOL CARAFE becomes a composition of ”strong” and ”fragile”. Two materials – familiar, yet very different – meet in design and functionality. The living nature of floating glass is shaped by the geometry of the stone. Beyond the beauty of the composition and the obvious functionality, the design holds another function. If the stone base is cooled down, the carafe can be turned into a wine or water cooler. For almost 200 years (end of Edo period), Nishimura Stone Lantern, located in the cedar forest area of North-East Kyoto, has manufactured functional and decorative hand-cut stone products for mainly classic garden and landscape designs . Stenholt Glass is a Danish-based traditional glassblower and artist working in the intersection of art and classic handicraft.
「COOL CAARAFE」は、強さと儚さを対比して表現しています。似ているようで大きく異なる石とガラスの2つの素材を、生き物のような 有機的なガラスを幾何学形態の無機的な石が支えることで対照的に表現しました。美しさだけでなく素材の特徴を活かし、冷やした石 のベースを利用してワインや水を冷たく保つ機能を与えました。「西村石灯呂店」は、200年以上にわたり京都を中心に伝統的な手彫り の石灯籠を創り、主に日本庭園に提供してきました。「Stenholt Glass」は、デンマークの伝統的な吹きガラスの工房です。アートとクラフトを融合した活動を行なっています。
